Ten Thousand Blogs

Blog 3501 – 06.03.2025

Ten Thousand Blogs

It is an audacious goal, ten thousand blogs. I have been at this daily blog now for over ten years and at this rate will need to live to a hundred, another of my personal goals, to achieve this one. Like many bloggers, I began this writing project hoping to grow a large readership. Ten years in, my daily readership has only peaked over three-hundred and fifty a few times while mostly lingering in the twenties or thirties.

My original goal was to build a platform, a readership, of ten thousand and I still hope to reach that goal too, yet I am more focused on achieving the milestone of ten thousand blogs. Along the way to that goal I do hope to become a better writer. The old saying goes, “Practice makes perfect” yet I think that more accurately, “Performance makes perfect.” We learn best by doing. All the studying and practicing in the world cannot hold a candle to actual experience. Doctors and lawyers only claim to be “practicing” their profession, but trust me if you ever need one you will want to get one that has learned their profession from much experience doing the job.

When I first began writing this blog I was living and working in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Over the ten years since, I have written from wherever I was at the time including:

Birmingham, Alabama

Cheyenne, Wyoming

Delta, Colorado

Bimidji, Minnesota

Bloomington, Indiana

Norfolk, Nebraska

Houston, Texas

Bon Wier, Texas.

Last November I purchased some property next to sixty acres that my son has just outside Bon Wier, a very small town in East Texas near Louisiana. Houston is currently my home and has been my home for most of my life, except for the eight or so years that I lived and worked on the road at the end of my career as an inspector.

This month I hope to move an RV Camper trailer, much like the one that I lived and worked out of for those eight years, onto my property near Bon Wier. I hope to begin by recreating there as much as possible. But someday I intend to live there full time.

I have already written several blogs from Bon Wier sitting in my pickup waiting on the sun to rise so I could work on preparing the campsite for my second little house on wheels, I called my first one, My Little House on the Praire on Wheels. This one I intend to call, My Little House in the Woods on Wheels.

To paraphrase the theme song from the nineteen sixties hit TV show Green Acres, I long to sing: “Good-bye city life Bon Wier we are here.” From there I hope to reach my goal of Ten Thousand Blogs.
