Cool, Clear Water
On any given morning as I take a few minutes to search my mind and heart for a few encouraging words in amazement I find that spring of cool clear water bubbling up within that Jesus is said to have spoken about with the woman at the well.
I do not claim to know all of the answers nor to even understand all the questions of life well enough to attempt to answer most of them. This I do know though that the answers are to be found within and not outside of ourselves where we do most of our searching in vain.
What we see with our eyes, hold in our hands, smell with our noses, taste with our tongues, or hear with our ears are only reflections of that deeper, higher, greater truth that is only to be found within.
When I was a lad the race to space was all about landing a man on the moon and bringing him safely back to earth. Our new focus seems to be on colonizing Mars.
I recently read a post on Social Media where someone was saying that they had always been homesick for heaven and could not wait to get there. Heaven is not some far away place in some distant future. Jesus purportedly also said, “The kingdom of heaven is within you.” Like the popular country-western song of some years back it seems that we may have been “looking for love (heaven) in all the wrong places.”
Indeed, “All we could ever want or need is already ours and coming to us at just the right time and in just the right way from our loving and infinite source.” May we, each and all of us, better learn to avail ourselves of that spring of living water that is bubbling up from within us. And after we have quenched our thirst also allow that cool water to still and see in its calm clarity the reflection of the face of our loving and infinite source Who is at the same time both god and man, human and divine. To quote a nineteen-seventies contemporary Christian song: “Till you find Him in the mirror, you’ve got a long way to go.”

I could not decide which version of the song I like best so I am posting links to both
