The Lusty Month of May
It is said, “In spring a young man’s fancy turns to thoughts of love.” That is not just true of young men, but men and women of all ages as well, for after a long cold winter, warm and passionate thoughts of love and lust blossom as do the flowers in May. I was a young man very much in love and lust when I first saw the movie Camelot and heard the incomparable Venessa Redgrave as Guinevere perform today’s song linked below.
One on the more controversial lines in the song says:
“Those dreary vows than everyone takes, everyone breaks, everyone makes divine mistakes – the lusty month of May.”
Another saying often quoted to explain this unbridled “urge to merge” that more often than not goes beyond the bounds of matrimony, etiquette, good taste, and even reason is: “The heart wants what the heart wants.” The mind and other body parts too are swept away with passion as well when we or others choose to make this or that day in May “a day we’ll often rue” decidedly “full of thoughts of fun wholesome or un-.” Divine mistakes” – indeed.
Here is wishing each and all, the true and the “un-trusty” as well, a loving and lusty Month of May.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David James White
