More Than Once Upon a Time

Many of the exciting stories that we read or were read to us as children began with the words, “Once upon a time…” and we happily made space in our hearts and minds for these tales and we hoped that one day our own adventures would rival or surpass them all.

Everyone has a story and most of us more than a few choice ones. I am fortunate that I created this blog ten years ago to share not only some of my own adventures, but many of those of others that I have heard or witnessed. I am also very glad and grateful that I have gotten to stick around and see this adventure in time and space to the end.

Sadly, far too many of the time travelers and space explorers that I started out with have already completed their missions and moved on. Just a couple of years before my beloved daughter Emily concluded her brief adventure in time and space she sent me a song on a mixed Father’s Day CD that I feature below. It is one of my favorite Indigo Girls songs and is called All That We Let In. In the days, weeks, and months following my beloved child’s departure I listened to it over and over again and it comforted me and gave me a safe space to grieve my loss.

These lines were and are especially comforting, “We’ve lost friends and love ones much too young, with so much promise and things left undone. And all that guides us is a single center line and the brutal crossing over when it’s time… we’re better off for all that we let in.” We were born into this life to experience these adventures first hand and to share them with others and to share their adventures as well.

Enjoy not just one voyage in time and space, Pilgrims, but as many as you can.

Your friend and fellow traveler in time and space,
