One Bite At A Time, One Step At A Time

The old adage goes: “How do you eat an elephant? – One bite at a time.” There is very little, if anything, that is impossible to accomplish if it is broken down into small incremental steps. We live in a world where if you do not believe that the above statement is true just look on YouTube at all the videos that will step you through practically any repair or replacement project you can think of.

Over fifty years ago I took a six-month long Teletype Repair training course at the Southeast Army Signal School at Fort Eisenhower, Georgia (then called Fort Gordon.) Each lesson was a “by-the-numbers” step-by-step detailed explanation of how to do some task related to repairing teletype equipment. The military knew that this is one of the best way to train people to become proficient at any job – MOS, Military Occupational Status.

The biggest reason we do not accomplish bigger things in our lives is that we fail to plan big or take the steps necessary to accomplish the big tasks that involve many steps or details. I am working today on a campsite for and RV Camper Trailer that is really in my mind just another step toward a far bigger goal.

I wish you all the best success in all you set your hearts and minds to accomplish. Take a few baby steps today in the direction of one of those goals.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David James White
