Holy Days and Holidays

Today is one of those Christian holy days, holidays, that has always been a special one for me. I was fortunate to have two jobs each lasting over seven years where Good Friday was an observed holiday and I had the day off work with pay.

Since December of 2021 when I finally retired, gave up my day job, everyday is for me a personal holy day or holiday. That reminds me of a New Testament passage where Paul talks about how one group thinks one day is holy and another group observes another day, yet that to him everyday was a holy holiday.

“Life’s a holiday on primrose lane” the song goes and my reply to that most often asked question: “How are you?” is “Fine and dandy?” That is because though I no longer believe many of the things I was taught as a boy and a young man, I still strongly believe that the Muppets’ band leader Doctor Tooth got it right, “There is a party all the time for them that choose.” And with Paul that everyday is a holy day, a holiday.
