“My Cup Runneth Over”
In one of his shorter and more famous psalms (songs), the twenty-third, before David concluded with:
“And surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever” he writes, “my cup runneth over.”
Two popular myths immediately come to mind that torment the modern psyche: The Myth of Isolation and The Myth of Scarcity or Shortage.

We are not alone. Four Psams later in twenty-seventh Psalm we read that even though our mother and father forsake us the LORD will receive us. Love is always in relationship. Even as the LORD is never alone, being three in relationship, Parent, Child, and Spirit, we are never alone no matter appearances. We are that Child that completes the Divine.
As for scarcity and shortage, there is no limit on the love of God nor His/Her ability to provide for their child. Watching my son Jay and his wife Lauren with their daughter, Emma Grace, reminds me of my younger days when Jay and his older sister Emily were children. The verse that comes to mind is “If you being evil, know how to give good gifts to you children, how much more will your Heavenly Father provide for them that love him.”
And why? We are a part of him (them) and he (they) us.
“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want…my cup runneth over…”
