Serenity, Courage, and Wisdom

Three things very lacking in much of today’s society are the above. The dictionary defines serenity as:

If you can keep your head while everyone else is losing theirs, the saying goes, yet most people seem depressed, angry, and resentful almost all of the time, anything but serene or calm. So many people see themselves as wronged, victimized, and want revenge, justice, reparations, or some form of recompense for their losses, real or imagined. Have crimes been committed, people victimized, wronged, short-changed? Certainly, but another saying goes, “If you want revenge, you had better dig two graves.” Jesus teachings regarding turning the other cheek and not taking a brother to court are two of his least favorite and least followed teachings. And still people wonder why they have no peace. “Blessed are the peace makers for they shall be called the children of God.”

Peace or serenity comes from accepting the current circumstances and situations, living in the now not burdened by the wrongs of the past (neither those we committed nor those committed against us), nor encumbered by the fears of an uncertain future.

Courage is defined as:

Courage is what we need to fight the injustices of the present and to face an uncertain future. But we need to pick our battles. Everything is not worth fighting for or over and we should carefully count the cost before going to battle no matter how righteous that course may seem. Still some changes are worth standing up for courageously.

And lastly wisdom to know the difference:

If this subject seems like something I have covered before, well wise people know not to be afraid of repeating themselves and that some lessons need to be repeated loudly and often to ourselves first, but also to others.

Seeking serenity, courage, and wisdom,
