No Night So Long

One song that I find very encouraging and uplifting is the Dionne Warwick song that is the title for today’s blog. I sing it with her at the end of this piece.

As I do with many of the songs that have meant the most to me over the years, I imagine my higher power, my higher best self singing the words to me. I recall first doing this with a Beach Boys song, Don’t Worry, Baby (Everything will turn out alright.)

It is uncanny like my good friend Mike Dooley’s Notes From The Universe, Chinese Fortune Cookies, Horoscopes, and Double Bubble Gum fortunes at the bottom of the little folded cartoons they used to put in each piece how fitting and directed at me personally the words seem.

One of the lines from Miss Warwick’s song that seem most fitting and spot on is:

“Follow me like you used to do. I still can show you who you are.”

Are you listening to that still small voice above all the angry, accusing and judgmental ones, that is forever trying to remind us just Who and Whose we truly are and that there is:

“No night so long that you can find the day.

No day so wrong that you can’t find your way.

Follow me like you used to do.

I can still show you who you are.”

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White
