Favorite Child

In one of my favorite books and movies, The Shack, God is portrayed by a big beautiful black woman because the primary character in the story, MacKensie (Mack) Phillips, as a boy at particularly tragic time in his young life was befriended by an angel wearing this same disguise. Papa, Mack’s wife Nan’s name for God, uses the phrase, “he or she is one of my favorites,” for everyone, without exception. The divinity in all of us instinctively knows that it is wrong to play favorites unless everyone is our favorite. For all those who like the disciple John who referred to himself as “the disciple that Jesus loved” remember what we were taught to sing as children, “Red, brown, yellow, black, and white they are precious (favorite) in his sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world.”

I am a friend, fan, and follower of Australian poet Paul Vincent Cannon. Today on his blog he posted the following poem:

I don’t always click like or comment on posts, yet today I did both on this one, my comment was: “time travel is one of my favorite subject and you are one of my favorite poets.”

I think it more than appropriate that an artist and poet’s middle name should be Vincent.

Your friend, fellow traveler, and also a favorite child of the Universe, as are you,

David White
