Happy Valentine’s Day
One of my all-time favorite illustrations is about a young boy’s explanation of why dogs do not live as long as people. The little guy said, “We are here to learn how to love and since dogs already know how to do that they don’t have to stay around as long.
The Greeks had three words for love for they wanted to differentiate between three types of love: love of family, romantic/sexual love, and self-sacrificing or godly love. Valentine’s Day is mostly about the second of the three, romantic/sexual love.
Some years ago I came across a small picture of a famous painting called The Rapture of Psyche. This picture, I think, says what words have a difficult time conveying about the rapturous experience of romantic/sexual love. I had a bunch of these little pictures printed by a business card printing company and for years handed them out on Valentine’s Day to people I met saying, “Give this to your spouse or lover and say this is how I want to make you feel and how you make me feel.”

Happy Valentine’s Day. If you need a cool drink or cold shower after reading today’s blog. I achieved my goal.
