That’s What Friends Are For
Some years ago I became disenchanted with Facebook over the mean spirited comments that so many “friends” seemed to be posting regarding the 2016 Presidential Election in particular. It used to be considered a rule of thumb not to discuss politics, sex, or religion in polite company. Somewhere along the line because I think texts, emails, and social media posts are not face to face or even voice to voice our conversations even between friends ceased being polite, kind, compassionate, or even tolerant. Therefore I decided to get off of Facebook and do my communicating with friends through this blog:
http://www.theencouragingword.co
and through personal emails, text messages, when and wherever possible face to face or voice to voice.
After my first grandchild, Emma Grace White was born September 5, 2023 I had cause to rethink that decision and after missing so many of the pictures that her mother Lauren was posting on Facebook I figured that I needed to start up my Facebook account again. Because it had been so long inactive the Facebook folks said that I would have to start a new account. So for several weeks now I have been reconnecting with friends from the past and making a few new friends as well.
The last time that I started an account on Facebook in March of 2015 it was to promote this blog and to build a platform of 10,000 friends or followers so that I could use that to convince a publisher to publish a book that I had written about my daughter called Emily, The Little Girl Who Sang Her Song To Anyone Who Came Along. This time around I am not selling anything and I have no underlying motivation but to just be a friend. I am reminded of a funny quote, “The animals are our friends and what do we do to our friends? We eat them.” I promise that I will eat any of you or make merchandise of you in anyway, nor will I try to sell you anything. That is not what friends are for despite what Amway, pyramid schemes, or publishers may think.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
