Your Silver Lining
I have been thinking about a song for several days trying to remember the title so that I could look it up to find the name of the chanteuse who sings the song. Her voice reminds me of the songstress Jewel and I was hoping to confirm my suspicions, but for days the song title eluded me. Then a night or so ago it came to me in a dream, “Hooray, hooray – I’m your silver lining.” Googling that line I found the song. I have attached a link to it below.
It is a terrible, impossible, and unreasonable burden to lay upon anyone to ask or expect them to be always our “silver lining.” We have all done it and it is one of the quickest ways to destroy any relationship. There is only one person that can fill that bill and just like the cartoon Pogo says, “We have discovered the enemy and it is us” – the savior/comforter/silver lining we are looking for us is us as well. The only person we can make happy is ourself. We can share our happiness with others but we cannot make or force anyone to be happy against their will, and why would we even if we could?
The conclusion of the song is most often the end result of expecting someone else to be our silver lining – “Hooray, hooray I’m your silver lining. But now I’m gone.
