Let It Snow
Fifty-two years ago this month I drove from my hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee to Houston, Texas to attend Bible Collage. It was the longest drive that I had ever made by myself and little did I realize that I would end up living in this city for far longer than I have lived anywhere else. Just a few days after my arrival Houston had a rare snow storm that covered everything in a beautiful two inch or so blanket of snow.
Snow is such an unusual thing in Houston that even a chance of snow flurries is exciting. And I can tell you that Houston drivers barely slow down for the torrential rains which happen quite often all throughout the year so you can be sure that I will be avoiding the roadways if there is even a chance of snow. Instead I will just watch the circus on TV from the safety of my own home.
Once when my daughter Emily was a little girl and another time when my son Jonathan was a wee lad (about ten years later), I recall that Houston received a trace of snow that was barely enough, collecting all we could, to build the tiniest of snowmen, ones that even Frosty would be ashamed to acknowledge as family.
I confess, snow-lover that I am, that the little boy in me thrills at even a chance of snow. I am this year even more thrilled for I cannot wait to see what my sixteen and a half month old granddaughter Emma Grace thinks of snow.

I think she will make a beautiful little snow bunny.
