Adventure Calls

I heard her voice this morning and she said: “Come dance with me, come ride with me, come fly with me. Come.” A dear friend, who knows me well, in a texted response to my recounting some recent adventure that I had texted her about wrote: “You really know how to test the limits.” Without missing a beat I countered: “How would we know what the limits are if we did not test them?”

Some of the most interesting metallurgical testing that I ever witnessed as a Certified Welding Inspector were the destructive test where welds were pressure tested till they failed determining the upper limits of the strength of the weld. Maybe it was the little boy in me that just seemed to enjoy watching things being blown up.

It is my contention that self limiting beliefs are what keep us from living our lives to the fullest. When adventure calls the best response is, “Yes ma’am or yes sir, reporting for duty.”

I recently began my seventy-fifth year of this particular adventure in time and space and though I may have gotten off to a slow start I can tell you I am not done yet. My bucket list is still quite long and I am continuing to add to it almost daily. Just a few things on my To Do List are:

Help to make the rest of my wife’s adventure as comfortable and fulfilling as possible

Help my son Jay realize his dream of his very own Hundred Acre Wood.

Write and publish ten thousand blogs. Three thousand, three hundred, thirty-nine and counting.

Learn to dance

See Paris

See London

Take a ride on the Trans Siberia Railway

Visit my life-long friend in Portland, Oregon

Visit my college buddy in Sydney, Australia

Travel far and wide pulling a small RV Camper visiting all the people and places that I have already met and seen, also seeing how many other places and faces that I can see in the time left to me

Be available for my granddaughter, Emma Grace, and perhaps some of her future siblings on Jay’s Hundred Acre Wood to help them learn to dance, to ride, and to fly. And to remind them what they already knew when they were toddlers just learning to walk which is that when adventures bids you “Come Away With Me” that there is only one sensible reply and that is, “Yes, Ma’am, I am ready, willing, and able. Let’s go.”
