Planning for the Final Chapters

Today my wonderful granddaughter, Emma Grace turns sixteen months old. I have difficulty writing the word granddaughter without an adjective. Emma is already a subject that I need a ton of adjectives to tell. Even as late as the first part of 2023 I really thought that I would be a hands off grandpa that would seldom be around for I would be traveling, seeing the States and the world. But since Emma Grace my plans have changed.

I still want to travel, but only a couple of months at a time and that probably during the winter months after the holidays and before spring, which usually comes early in Southeast Texas. The reason I only plan to travel then is because I want to be the grounds keeper, the pond keeper, the trail keeper at the JDJJW Hundred Acre Wood. Christoper Robin, Pooh’s buddy, had his hundred acre wood and my son, Jay is well on his way to securing his. He already has 60 acres and that with the fifteen point five acres that is adjacent to his land that totals 75.5. And the sister of the man I purchased the 15.5 acres from owns the 15.2 acres missing from the attached map. Through her brother I learned Friday that she is considering my offer to purchase her acreage for the same price that I bought her brother’s. She is to talk it over with her sons and get back to us in about a week. Securing that piece, Jay thinks he can talk his neighbor to the south into selling him ten of his acres to complete his hundred acres wood tract.

Jay’s Hundred Acre Wood Dream coming true

Any acreage in my name will be Jay’s upon my passing as he is the only heir that my wife and I have. I already have purchased a 20 foot pull behind RV camper with a layout very similar to the one that I lived in for almost ten years working away from home as a contract welding and utility inspector for oil and gas companies. I called that little trailer, “My little house on wheels on the prairie.(LHOWOTP)”This one we will call, “Our little house on wheels in the woods.

My next trip to the property this week. I plan to change out some game cameras for my son (Only the one he placed at our sweet pond seems to be working.” Look close and you’ll see a raccoon, two ducks, a crane, and a deer.

I have plans for that “sweet pond” to make it even sweeter with a paddle boat and fishing pier. I have lots of other plans to make Jay’s Hundred Acre Wood an attractive place for Emma Grace including bridal paths through the woods for riding ponies and horses.

Along with some travel in the months when the trees are dormant my final chapter plans involve helping to make Jay’s Hundred Acre Wood dream come true in every sense of the word.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White
