The Scene and the Unseen

I have often used the analogy of a stage play to describe what I believe to be our individual and collective adventures in this time/space construct we call reality or life. In middle school I was still a very shy and backward boy, but fortunately I met my all time favorite teacher, Mr. Don Crane. He was my art teacher, but he was also one of the two teachers responsible for putting together the plays that were performed in the school auditorium. He designed and had the students help him design and build all the sets and scenery for the plays. He more than any individual in my life encouraged me to participate. I am a forever fan of Donald R. Crane and will always be grateful that he saw something in me that needed to be encouraged.

Today’s title has two words than sound the same, but have different meanings, homophones. My middle school friends would chuckle at that word. Scene and seen or unseen as I use it are serious subjects.

I believe like in a staged play there is set, scenery, and a cast of characters but, that behind it all there is so much more. The scene is but the tip of the iceberg so to speak . We are so much more than what we appear, our highest best self knows all and sees all. This is the only sense in which the concept of God or a Higher Power makes any sense to me. Even the idea of Creation for me is a collaborative work – we are co-creators with our higher power, our highest best self. “Ask whatsoever you will believing and it shall be done.”

In a very real sense I believe that like Mr. Crane and that other teacher that we are co-producers, co-directors, co-authors of all these productions, adventurers, lives – seen and unseen. The seen or scene is ever changing but the unseen is eternal and unchanging.
