Toys Made To Last

Rummaging in the attic recently I came across three toys that were my son Jay’s when he was a little guy over thirty years ago. As I was washing my truck any way I hauled them outside and in the drive way washed off thirty years of dust and grime. The spring horse’s metal frame and springs were a little rusty so yesterday morning I took it apart, sanded them, and gave them a fresh coat of yellow Rust oleum paint. They should be good for another thirty years.

My wife and I bought the Little Tike car and slide new, but the spring horse’s was a hand-me-down from Jay’s cousin Greg who is about three years his senior. Hopefully my granddaughter Emma Grace can have as much fun on her 1st Pony, and in the car and on the slide as her dad, little Jonathan, did. Maybe she too can pass them down to a sibling or two. Or maybe they will end up in her parents attic after she outgrows them to reappear in another thirty years when her children may have need of them.

Alas too many toys are not made to last, but these three certainly were.
