It’s Coming On Christmas

Christmas is only one month away and lights are turning on and Christmas decorations are appearing everywhere. Like many of you I love the Christmas season and look forward to it every year. Traditionally Thanksgiving Day is the beginning of the Christmas season, but merchants have fudged the starting day so long and so often that it is not uncommon to see Christmas ornaments on sale immediately after Halloween if not sooner.

Classic Christmas movies are airing everywhere and new ones. Radio stations are playing Christmas song around the clock and if you are not a fan of Christmas you are going to get more than your fill of the sights and sounds of Christmas.

My granddaughter Emma Grace is old enough to enjoy her second Christmas this year. I know her parents, my son Jay and his wife Lauren are going to make a big deal of Christmas for Emma.

My dad was not a big fan of Christmas and would say, “Christmas is for the children.” Even so I believe that there is a child in all of us that enjoys the special Christmas treats and gifts as much as the younger children do.

The song today is Joni Mitchell singing River – “Coming on Christmas, cutting down tree, Their putting up reindeer, Their singing songs of joy and peace. I wish I had a river I could skate away on.”

It is a beautiful song and a good one to start off the Christmas season.
