The Best of Intentions
First let me say regarding today’s Samuel Johnson picture quote that the only hell that I believe in is the hell we choose to make for ourselves here because of our worst intentions. You see I believe that what comes to us is what we expect, intend, desire.
Where do our desires come from? There are two opposing thoughts on that subject even in Scripture. One is expressed in Psalms and goes: “Delight thyself in the Lord and he shall give you the desires of your heart.” According to that verse our desires come from the Lord of glory. The other view of where desires come is that they originate from the made-up false god, ego or Satan, the motivation being “that we may consume it upon our lust.”
I would like to look at lust for a moment. What is it? From where does it come? Since ego/ Satan is a false god and cannot create anything but only twist or mar something already created, lust can only be a twisting of something good. Lust involves looking, wanting, and trying to satisfy our God given urge to merge.
Honest men and women admit the attraction to possess and be possessed by beauty and can see and recognize that depression and despair is the lowest emotion even as ecstasy and elation are the highest emotion. Lust according to the dictionary means:

Except for second and third meanings it does not sound all that bad does it? Indeed it is not and can be very good indeed. Though with all appetites it must be kept in proportion or disaster awaits, hell on earth. Good must always be weighed against best.
Near the end of my daily mantra I have a disclaimer that I attached to all my dreams, desires, and intentions. I express it thusly:
“I make these and all my intentions for the highest good (best) of the Universe, myself, and everyone, everywhere.” This is just a longer way of saying “Thy will be done.” Every desire, dream, intention if followed from its root cause to its ultimate destination begins and ends with our Loving and Infinite Source.
The seed thought that came to me over fourteen years ago which I continue to build my daily mantra around:
“I am so glad and grateful that everything That I could ever want or need (desire, dream ,or intend) is already mine and coming to me at just the right time and in just the right way from my loving and infinite source.’
is really just a longer way of saying: “Delight thyself in the Lord and he shall give you desires of your heart.”
