Exercise Your Franchise

Today’s title is just another way of saying, “Vote.” In a democratic society even in a republic it is the only true say we have in who governs us and is our chance to decide who we trust to write our laws, uphold our Constitution, enforcing ours laws, and determining and judging rightly cases accordingly to the Constitution and the laws of the land. Our vote holds our representatives accountable to us for good government.

Today early voting begins in Texas and though there is a slim chance that my vote for Harris/Walz for President and Colin Allred for U.S. Senate will be echoed all across the state I nevertheless want to exercise my franchise – vote. Men and women have marched, fought, and even died to secure this right and I marvel at how many eligible voters fail to vote believing their one vote does not make a difference. It can especially in a close election which this one is expected to be. I hope it is not close, but that Kamala and also Colin win by unquestionably margins making the “rigged election” lie laughable. We shall see.

Do election results always end with the best candidate winning? Indeed not, even as every jury decision is not always the correct or just one. But for all it’s faults our democratic republic form of government is superior to the other options many of which allow the public little say in how they are governed.

Donald Trump in addressing Evangelical Christians recently said, “This will be the last time you have to vote because we are going to fix it so you don’t have to ever vote again.” Of all the outlandish and scary things that DJT has said over the years this is one of the scariest.

Make plans to exercise your franchise. Make your vote count. Use it or lose it.
