Not To The Strong Or The Swift

There is an Old Testament promise that inspired the song lyric, “Not to the strong is the battle, not to the swift is the race, but to the true and the faithful victory is promised through grace.” In today’s politics such a notion is laughable, but I still believe that truth, patience, persistence, and faithfulness deserve to win the day.

We are less than a month away from a national election that will decide the direction that we in the United States want our nation and with it the world to take. Progressives hope it is forward and MAGA folks are counting on Making America not Grape Again but Orange by returning an angrier even more vindictive and now convicted felon Donald John Trump back to the White House.

A new movie called The Apprentice hopes to highlight just how Donald Trump captured the imagination of so many that are under his spell. It features his mentor infamous lawyer Roy Cohn who schooled him in the tactics that he lives by: Accuse, exaggerate, and never ever admit defeat. That is the Trump Brand in a nutshell. Kindness plays little or no role in this playbook. Rather Trumps’s emphasis seems to always be on people and things that he hates.

In twenty-three days we vote and will decide which vision of the future we favor. Will we choose to go forward or back. I hope Kamala Harris is right when she says, “We are not going back!”
