The Key

Most of us at one time or another have lost or misplaced an important key and dealt with the frustration of being locked-out or not being able to get to something that we have locked away for safe keeping. Keys and locks I have maintained for years are only intended to keep honest people out for the dishonest always find a way to get in and to steal no matter how thick the walls nor how intricate the security.

I recall in my travels visiting a small western town in Wyoming where I marveled that nothing seemed to be under lock and key. People trusted their neighbors and even strangers. In my home town of Houston I have had two bikes stolen off the back of my pick-up truck, parked in my driveway. I even had someone steal the tailgate off my truck once. After that I started backing my truck into the drive way and even installed a camera with a motion sensing light to try to discourage thieves.

Texas is perhaps the most heavily armed state and that anyone would risk their life for a tailgate or a bicycle is beyond me. The true key to the treasure house is not taking from others, but in realizing that true wealth is having more than enough to share.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White
