The Measure of a Life

As today’s picture quote says, life is not measure by the number of breaths nor the number of heart beats we experience, but by those breaths and heartbeats that that carry us away.

One of the simplest ways for us to meditate (which is being especially mindful of a particular moment or heartbeat) is to focus on our breath, breathing in and out slowly and imagining with each breath that we are breathing in pure love and then breathing that love out to a world that “does not need another mountain for there are mountains and hillsides enough to climb….What the world needs now is love sweet love, more than just for some, but for everyone.” I first heard those quoted words in a song about a couple of billion heart beats ago.

Love is the measure of a life as as the brief and to the point lyrics that Paul McCartney wrote for the Wings band’s instrumental song that are at the very end of the song: “And in the end, the love we take is equal to the love we make.”

Have a great Saturday and may every breath and every heartbeat fill us with love till we are overflowing with affection for everyone and everything that comes our way.

Your friend and fellow traveler in time and space,

David White
