The Other?

Teachers like Jesus seem to measure a person’s worth not by the power or possessions that they accumulate nor by the way they treat their betters or their equals, but by the way they treat those that they consider “less than.” Even to consider people as “less than” or “other” just shows that we do not know Who and Whose we truly are. Here is clue, “The Lord God is One” and told Moses from a burning bush that his chosen name is “I am.” I am, you are, we are God, and despite all the rumors regarding an alternative, an another team captain or tribe there is no other.

Those who would attempt to divide us into camps do so to exercise power over us. I have often quoted the lyrics of a song that was popular when I was a young man. The chorus goes, “We are one in the Spirit, we are One in the Lord, and we pray that our unity will one day be restored. And they”’ll know we are Christians by our love.” Sadly Christians and most religious groups think of themselves as “God’ chosen people” when we are all God’s children as the children’s song says, “Red, brown, yellow, black, and white, they are precious in His (Her)sight. Jesus (or whatever name you used to call God) loves the little children of the world.”

I especially like the order of the colors in the above chorus the same way I prefer to use the expression “women and men” rather than the more often used “men and women.” Actually it is probably more correct to say, “There is no longer male nor female for we are one.” Ah man and Ah woman, Aye women and Amen!
