The Gift That Keeps On Giving
Well, Ole Crazy Uncle Dave’s birthday gift was a hit. I learned along time ago that if you want your gift to mean the most, give it unwrapped and before the party, otherwise it is just one gift among many and not that special. Carter was watching for me and met me at the door. I had practiced a little banter on the drive over. I said, “If you don’t particularly like the skeleton, hang him in the closet, that’s where most people keep their skeletons, but if you want to have some real fun hang him in your mother’s closet, or your dad’s, or your brother’s, they’ll be shocked and startled to see him there, keep him moving around, his shocking effect will never grow old.”
Michelle, Carter’s mother texted me after the party and said, “David we love you. And Carter loves the skeleton.” I am so glad I took the chance and that it paid off. But then what thirteen year old boy would not want to have his own life-sized skeleton. Carter named him, Mr, Skelton, and posed him on the couch with his great grandma Betty’s blanket and a baseball cap. Mr. Skelton turned out to be a cool dude.
