Live Life Joyfully

One of the many caps (or wigs in this case) that I have worn in my life is that of one of my alter egos Dee Jay the Clown. His motto and therefore mine is, “Live Life Joyfully.” Honey, there are always problems to solve, losses to endure (especially the people we become so attached to) and landmines placed strategically to blow us to kingdom come. But as one of my favorite Psalms says:

So don’t allow yourself to stay down no matter what comes your way. Pick yourself up, put a smile on your face so big and bright that people will be wondering what you’ve been up to.

I learned a long time ago if you want people to act better, see the best in them and if that is too big a leap, give them a reputation to live up to not down to. Try it on yourself first. It works.

One of the most destructive things we can ever do is to “bad mouth” ourselves or anyone else for that matter. A line from my daily mantra goes, “May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in my sight, O Lord my strength, my rock, and my redeemer.”

Fifty years ago, when I was twenty-four and a practicing Christian, I was a Junior Church Pastor in a church that bused to Sunday School and church over a thousand children every Sunday morning. One of the choruses that I used to sing with the children was “The Joy of the Lord is my Strength.” The verse after “I go ha, ha, ha” was all Ha’s and I usually had them all actually laughing out loud after I lead them in that verse.” Just like yawning, laughing is infectious.

There was a Coke commercial in the nineteen-seventies that said, “I’d like to buy the world a Coke.” Well ole Dee Jay and I would rather offer the world an infectious smile. Wanna help, first practice in the mirror, smiling with just your eyes, just think “I’m gonna love you like nobody’s loved you come rain or come shine.” When you can make yourself believe that then you will have no difficulty convincing others and the whole world.
