She Will Be Missed
Tonight and tomorrow two very dear family friends, Yolanda Ramirez and her daughter Lizette Ramirez, will mark the passing of their beloved mother and grandmother. The rest of their family and a host of friends will also gather to celebrate the life and passing of Alicia Lopez Cuevas. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
I remember how President George W. Bush had become quite unpopular toward the end of his second term due mainly to his administration’s failures in the Iraq War. A few months after he left office I recall seeing a large billboard with his picture and in bold letters, “Do you miss me yet?” I have to admit that I said to myself, “Not yet, and I doubt if I ever will.” But I was so wrong. I had hoped that President Trump would be a better President than he was a candidate, but six months into his Presidency I had to admit I really did miss George W. Bush. I give him credit for never endorsing Trump and trying to encourage his party to do better and to be better.
I believe that every one of us despite our religions and political postions is a child of the Universe. Grant you, we often make it difficult for others and even ourselves to see the highest and best in us. Alicia Lopez Cuevas did not for she knew Who and Whose she was and therefore she helped her children, family, and friends to see God a little better.
One of the greatest tributes ever given, I think, was what Jesus is reported to have said upon hearing of the death of his cousin, John the Baptist. He said to his disciples:

Alicia Lopez Cuevas let her light shine and we who knew her rejoiced, for the season we had her, in that glorious and godly light. Those of us who are still here need to turn on our high beams and shine a bit brighter in the absence of her shining light.
Alicia Lopez Cuevas will indeed be missed.
