Say Good-bye To August
There is a certain rhythm to life, we experience it in cycles, circles, and seasons. Monday is Labor Day in the U.S.A. And during my public school days which began in the mid-nineteen fifties, school always started the day after Labor Day. For my son Jay, whose public school experience began in the mid-nineteen nineties school began in early August.
The kids have been back at their desks for a couple of weeks now and the calendar changes tomorrow, so it is time to say good-bye to August once again. August was always the hottest month of the year where I grew up and we were always ready for some cooler weather. Even in hot and humid Houston we experienced a cool day yesterday, the high was only 88 degrees Fahrenheit. That may not seem cool to a lot of folks, but when August temperatures usually hover around a hundred degrees those twelve degrees cooler can be quite refreshing.
It is with a smile and a bit of nostalgia that I say good-bye to August. I try not to spend too much time looking forward or backward, but savoring each moment, each day, each month as it comes. This is my seventy-fourth August, this go round, and I hope to experience at least twenty-six more before this adventure is over.
Are you enjoying your adventure in time and space? Tomorrow is a new month, Honey! Make the most of it.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
