Staying Open

The opening lines of my daily mantra are thus:

“My heart and my mind are open.

My arms and my hands are open.

My mouth nose ears and eyes are open

to all the Universe has for me,

For all the Universe to flow in and through me.”

When we think our best days are behind us and close ourselves off to any new possibilities we create a blockage preventing the flow of new ideas and realization of new possibilities. There is a reason that our mouth, nose, ears and eyes are placed facing front in our heads and that our legs, arms, hands and feet do their best work reaching and stepping forward,

We were never intended to be backward thinking or moving creatures. We are meant to progress, to go forward. The Apostle Paul in one of his more quoted passages wrote to the church at Philippi:

I purposely left on the last words “of God in Christ Jesus” for I believe they are there to push a particular religious view, a view of exclusion and often backward and narrow thinking in my estimation.

I grew up in an area of the country often referred to as “the Bible Belt.” The theme song of many people who live there is the line “Where old times there are not forgotten.” They are, I am sad to say, an often backward looking and thinking people. I was of one mind with them for many years till something happened to change my thinking.

I came to the place in my life where I was willing and ready to discard beliefs that were no longer serving me and to open my heart and mind to all the Universe has for me.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White
