Thank Heaven For Laundromats

Yesterday evening our second without power we headed out in search of a laundromat to do a couple of loads of laundry. I had a list of about ten not knowing which would have power and which would not. My wife and I headed to the closest and earliest closing ones first. The nearest one closed at 8pm and was dark and closed. The second nearest closed at 7 pm and the proprietor was shuttering the store but waved us in at 6 pm. Just time enough to wash, dry, and fold those two loads of clothes before the front door was locked at 7pm. The Universe came through for us again.

I had a busy day after the hurricane blew through, including a brief stop at our local grocery store for charcoal and starter fluid for the grill. They still had no ice but fortunately a convenient store quite near though they had no power still sold me two bags of ice before it melted. We covered the milk and other perishables in the refrigerator and I grill the salmon and chicken from the freezer. Also with my wife’s help and two step ladders I replace two pieces of vinyl siding that the high winds of Beryl had blow off.

Before leaving for the laundromat I got our small generator ready to start if the power was still off in the morning. If it runs a fan and a microwave, and maybe a lamp that will be more than enough. Also I filled our three gas cans, but was unable to find more ice after the laundromat, so today’s adventure after starting the generator will be throwing out all the spoiled food.

Thank heaven for laundromats.
