Time To Step Aside
I believe that Joe Biden did this country and the world a great service four years ago by coming out of retirement and defeating then incumbent President Donald J. Trump. He said that Trump’s words regarding the antisemite remarks and actions at the Chancellorsville demonstration I.E. saying there were “Good people on both sides” was his reason for running. Biden also said he would not run for a second term that he only intended to right the ship of state then step aside to let some younger person continue the work.
I watched as many Americans and people around the world did last night as two old men debated which of them deserved four more years. What I saw was one too frail and the other too self deluded to hold that office. Both claimed their primary reason for running was to keep the other away from the levers of power wielded by the office of President.
Joe and Donald it is time for the good of the nation and the world that you both step aside. Though smaller in statue and girth I still believe Joe Biden is the bigger man. What he does in the next few weeks before the Democratic Presidential Convention will prove me right or wrong.
I do not think for one moment that Donald Trump will step aside. He has been running all his life to stay ahead of the consequences of his lies and misdeeds. He desperately needs to be reelected to prevent his pending trials from going forward. But Joe, you showed us and the world that you are no longer up to the task of defeating him again. I hope you will realize that and step aside to allow someone younger to be nominated to do that job for you.
Your legacy is secure, you have done your duty. Listen to the gracious words of John the Baptist regarding the new kid on the block, Jesus of Nazareth, “I must decrease and he must increase.”
You say you want to save our Democracy, do the right thing.
I close this blog with a quote from Dirty Harry, “A man has to know his limitations.” Yours have become evident to us all. We hope your well deserved pride in your accomplishments will not prevent you from seeing it is time for you to step aside.
We love you, Joe, but it is time for you to go, by choice instead of by a disastrous defeat by a lesser man in every way.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
