Who Is Coming To Save The Day?
It is forever a mystery to me how many opinions, parading as facts, there are regarding what food is good for us or to be avoided. It seems “health food” is the new religion, as if we needed another.
I am not sure we ever needed any of them. I recently purchased a food supplement that according to the medical doctor advertising must be a miracle in a jar. What would any religion be without miracles?
If I sound skeptical, I am. I have been duped more than once by politicians, preachers, doctors, and salesmen. I should add lawyers to that mix as well. People who parade their qualifications and claim to be saviors always make be a bit wary. Superman is a nice story, but if you are looking for someone to save the day that person in the mirror is always your best and safest bet.
A couple of lines from a Whitney Houston comes to mind, “Everybody’s looking for a hero. I never found anyone to fulfill my need, so I learned to depend on me.” Call me crazy, you would not be the first nor the last, but I believe that we all have a hero inside us that is standing by just waiting for a chance to show his or her stuff.
That hero is our higher best self and bids us always, especially in our time of trouble or need, to, “Call upon me and I will show you great and mighty things that you do not know.”
The food supplement I ordered has not arrived yet and may very well turn out to be just another gimmick to get me spend my money. If it does even one of the myriad of things it promises to do it will be well worth it, but as the expression goes, “I won’t be holding my breath.” Neither should you, nor should we be looking for a hero to save the day or to make America great again, that my friends is up to us collectively and individually relying on that Hero within us to save the day.
In my minds eye I see a famous Saturday Night Live skit from many years ago where a man stood before a record player as the theme from the cartoon Mighty Mouse played: “Here I comes to save the day that means that Mighty Mouse is own the way.”
