I Believe or I Think
I believe or I think that every new day presents us an opportunity to grow, to expand our knowledge, to shed the limited thinking and beliefs of the past. Even the tendency of some of us older folks to review the past of our lives can challenge us to see those choices, those past actions in a new light, instead of just enshrining them with a mythical notion that the past was some kind of golden age where people were kinder, more loving, more enlightened. They were not nor were we.
The best in us even then was focused on creating a better world for our children and grandchildren and the lesser in us was focused on profit at whatever the price. Leaving a better world for our children is far more than leaving them a pile of money especially if that money was obtained at the expense of others and this planet that we call home.
Oh, no, you say another tree hugging socialist. I do love trees, and hugging for that matter. Also I consider myself a social person. And yes I would like to leave a little gold and silver behind for my son and granddaughter to provide a little buffer for them against the financial downturns of life, but not at the expense of others nor the environment.
To paraphrase Jesus, What shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his way in the process.
I believe or I think that every new life is an opportunity for us to discover or rediscover what the true treasures of life really are and what is worth working for, saving, and protecting. When I look into the smiling eyes of my granddaughter It all seems pretty plain to me. I want to leave her a better world. And the only way to make a better world is by being the best person I can be.
