When You Say Nothing At All

It may be difficult for a word guy like me to admit that there are other ways to communicate that are often more effective. Often a look or a touch can say what mere words cannot. Today’s song is about a love that is more than just pretty sounding words.

For every person that finds it hard to say “I love you” there are ten that find it all too easy. In all those words how can we ever tell what is true. It is really easy if we learn to listen with our eyes as well as our ears we will discover that everyone has a “tell.” A little something they do that either validates or denies the words they are saying. The old joke that says, “ I can tell when you are lying because I can see your lips moving” is not so far off really. The lips, the eyes, the set of the jaw are all subtle clues and so is body language in general. Grant you some are so practiced and proficient at lying that they hide the usual tells. Careful observation however will always reveal what words are said in earnest and which are not.

As the song says “Often we say it best when we say nothing at all” allowing our actions to speak louder than our words.” Writing from a distance like this I am reminded of a lyric that I heard in a love song when I was a lad, “It’s only words, but words are all I have, to steal your heart away.”

Many a heart has been stollen by pretty words that sadly were later revealed to be untrue. Listen carefully and look for clues to validate all claims before giving your heart away.
