Top Of The World
Today’s song reminds me of Frank Sinatra’s song I’ve Got The World On A String and an even older song that says, “Forget your troubles come on get happy.” I guess I just have never been all that fond of the Blues. In my mind singing the blues is to get all that sadness out of your system so you can be happy again.
I like the sentiment expressed in song, “It takes a worried man to sing a worried song. I’m worried now, but I won’t be worried long.” Sadness and worry were never intended to be our default setting, and much as I appreciate a good rain and a good cry, blue skies and sunshine lift our spirits and brighten our smile.
I am writing this blog the evening before I intend to publish it because I am planning to rise early tomorrow morning to accompany my son on a second trip to his property in East, Texas near the small town of Bon Weir. It has been over a month since I first saw his sixty acres of mostly wooded land that Jay recently purchased mainly to hunt on. I bought some rubber boots as the water was over my regular work boots the last time we walked the property and I expect it will be again since the recent rains have produced wide spread flooding over much of East Texas.
My dad was in his element in the woods rain or shine and so is my son. Among my fondest memories are moments with my dad as a boy and as a teenager and with my son both when he was a boy and now that he is grown man walking in the woods together. Dad has been gone over twenty-five years. I am now near the age he was when he passed. Though I hope to see my new granddaughter grow up, none of us know how long we have. Whatever time I have left I fully intended to live it on top of the world.
