Like A Mockingbird

The disillusioned preacher wrote, “There is nothing new under the sun.” Even the most successful writers, speakers, singer/songwriters, and teachers would admit their best efforts are mostly trying to put a new spin on things others have already said and done.

That being said the charge of plagiarism could be leveled at even the most famous so called original thinkers including Jesus and William Shakespeare who never seemed to mind borrowing freely what others had said and written before them.

I try to give credit where I can but am sure I am guilty of borrowing most of my thoughts from others in one way or another. To quote Paul McCartney in his song about filling the world with silly love songs, “What’s wrong with that, I’d like to know.”We are all mockingbirds repeating what we have heard. That is the way we learn to speak, to write, to sing, to teach in the first place – repeating what we have heard, parroting the words and opinions of those before us.

Today’s song could be the theme song of this blog as the encouraging word is nothing new just a retelling of an old, story, a love story.
