I’ll Never Love This Way Again
I suppose the saddest love stories are the young and brief ones. I recall a Proverb that says, “I have been young and I have been old, but I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread.” That writer must have lead a very sheltered life or was quite blind. “Into every life a little rain must fall.” I love rain, yet many others view rain as synonymous with pain and problems. Even the best love stories have their troubles too and most have an unhappy ending for one the other or both as rarely does life allow even lovers to exit on the buddy plan.
If you really believe that you have found the great love of your life it behooves you to “ hold on before the good is gone” especially if you sincerely think you will “never love this way again.”
The line, “Never say never” comes to mind and yet I understand so well the optimism and desperation behind today’s song. Optimistic in that the singer believes they have indeed found the great love of their life and desperation that they feel they must hold on, hold on, hold on.
The poet has said in so many words, “All things that have held tightly to I have lost, yet those things and people that I have let go of are forever mine.” One can only know how deeply it is possible to love not by closing themselves off to seeming loss, but by realizing that nothing surrendered is ever truly lost but kept for us always.
I believe that all love stories, young, old, or in between, can be and should be the great loves of our lives. The greatest testimony of a well-loved and lived life is, “I would not have changed it for the world.”
