I Write The Songs

Today’s song by Barry Manilow has long been a favorite of mine. In the song Barry channels the spirit of music that I believe each of us has access to as well. The old adage goes, “Music hath charms to soothe the savage beast.” Even more, I believe, music has the ability to tap into not only our inner demons, but our highest and best angels.

There is more to an education than teaching children to be good citizens, good workers. Children should be taught to tap into the highest and the best within them and to share that with the world. Some times the privilege few think that all the rest are just hands to help them secure ever more wealth and power. I am reminded of an Old Testament prophet who claimed to have a message from on high when he wrote, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord.”

Tap into the spirit of music and sore high above all cares of this life, deceitfulness of riches, the myth of power over others and know you are true princes and princesses despite your bank book or your perceived place in the pecking order. May your heart and mind be ever alive to the sound of music.
