In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning

Yesterday, I began watching again the six seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Prime Video. I originally signed up for Prime five years ago while on a work assignment in Colorado where I met an electrical inspector that raved about The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I had to see her for myself.

At the end of episode three of season one, Miriam (Midge) Maisel’s husband who has left her says to her that he wants to give it another go. She says, “No.” and when he asks why she says, “Because you left.” As the credits roll Sinatra begins to sing, In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning.

Actually Hank Williams Senior’s song, I Can’t Help It, was next up in alphabetical order of my karaoke style songs, but I figure that song can wait a day so I could share this one today.

Mrs. Maisel’s father Abe tells Joel, her husband soon to be ex, “What were you thinking, Joel? Don’t you know that you will never find another woman as good as Miriam?” Today’s song fits so well when it finally dawns on Joel what a terrible mistake he has made. It is our regrets that haunt us most in the wee hours of the morning.
