I Believe In You
We spend so much time arguing about what we do not believe, I think it is quite refreshing to consider what we do believe. During this highly charged time of Presidential Politics there is a lot of fear on both sides. I do not for a moment believe that the United States has always picked the best men to be President. As for making the same mistake twice, we have done that many times too.
We have all heard the expression, but not so much lately, “May the best man win.” Today’s song says, “I believe in you.” For all the things I once believed and no longer do, I believe in love and I believe in you. The Bible tells us, “Perfect love casts out fear.” None of us is perfect and certainly the two mostly likely candidates for President this fall will be the same we voted for four years ago. They were not perfect then and each will have by then had one full term as President to prove whether or not we should trust them with our vote.
I intend to vote for Joe. Of the two, I think he has a far better track record. They used to say the taller guy always won. But we know that is no longer true. I believe the best man won four years ago. The other guy is still denying that he lost. In the likely event he loses again he will probably deny it again. That ought to tell us something.
Abraham Lincoln was recently again voted the best President that we ever had. He wisely said, “You can fool all of the people some of the time, you can fool some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.” That reminds me of another quote about being fooled, “Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.”
I believe in love, and I believe in you.
