Honey Come Back
I first heard today’s song by Glen Campbell during my long hot summer in Vietnam, fifty four years ago. It is a sad song, but then many loves song are. It is said that all love stories have a sad good-bye at the end. The romantic in me wants to believe in happy endings, new beginnings, even multiple lives where we can relive our favorite love stories over and over again.
One of my favorite movies is What Dreams May Come. I recommend it to all romantics and wannabes out there. I especially like the happy ending and the way everyone gets to have their own heaven.
Heaven for the young lover in today’s song is the thought of his Honey coming back to him. Did his and Honey’s heavens ever intersect again? The song does’t say, but it leaves open that possibility.
I quoted the adage yesterday, “You can never go home again” but in one of Jesus most beloved parables, The Prodigal Son, that is exactly what happens. That story has a happy ending. If yours hasn’t yet perhaps there is more to the story, or better yet many stories yet to explore.
