Fire and Rain

When I returned from Vietnam after just turning twenty, James Taylor was quite popular and many of his songs really touched my generation. Fire and Rain is one of them. As I go through my song list in alphabetical order you will notice that several of the songs that I chose to sing are James Taylor hits. His easy laid back style made him the Perry Como of that time and his hauntingly beautiful melodies and lyrics still echo for many of us today.

They say that imitation is the highest form of compliment. I, in no way, ever want to take anything away from the artists who create beauty with lyrics and tunes or any other medium, I merely want to add my voice to the multitudes who sing their praises.

There is a phrase in my daily mantra that comes to mind: “I mirror you, I admire you, I worship you.” I believe that we are all as another song says, “One in the LORD and I pray that our unity will one day be restored.” It is a song Christians sing, yet to me its meaning reaches far wider – “It goes beyond the highest star and reaches to the lowest hell.”

“I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain. I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end. I’ve seen lonely times when I could not find a friend, but I always thought I’d see you again.”
