Evermore

The soundtrack to Disney’s live action Beauty and the Beast is a favorite of mine and of all those hauntingly beautiful songs one if not the most moving is the Beast singing Evermore. During the ending credits Josh Groban also sings Evermore. As much as I love his voice, it is the tortured Beast’s performance that I prefer. It is he that I attempt to imitate today.

I have no illusions of being a great singer nor a great wordsmith, but do believe that words matter and that spoken, written, or sung they have power to persuade. That last word brings to mind some song lyrics that I heard and sang as a boy in church, “I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I’ve committed unto him against that day.” It is purported to have been written by the Apostle Paul and was translated into English by Biblical scholars employed by King James in the early sixteen hundreds. Daniel W. Whittle published his famous gospel song in 1883 with the Bible quote as a refrain:

Love and devotion are determined to wait forevermore in both songs. I may not believe all the things that I once believed as a boy, yet I still believe in love ever more.
