Christmas In Dixie

I grew up just up the road from Fort Payne, Alabama from where the country band Alabama hails. Christmas In Dixie is one of my favorites of their songs. My home town of Chattanooga, Tennessee is the nearest city of any size to Fort Payne and so those Alabama boys probably knew Chattanooga better than I did Fort Payne.

I am sure that they grew up as I did thinking Christmas was a pretty big deal and counting the days. It is good to have something to look forward to and pleasant memories to look back on, but it is even more important to remember to make the best of today. It is after all the present we never have to wait for, the gift waiting on us to open.
