Chances Are

Three thousand blogs is a sort of milestone. At one a day it has taken me over eight years to get this far, By my calculation it will take another nineteen years or so to reach my personal goal of writing ten thousand blogs. What are the chances of that happening? Some might not bet on it, but they would not have put money on my staying at it this long either. They underestimate the stubborn streak that I inherited from my father, James Clifford White.

Dad was, as are we all, an imperfect and flawed individual, but he did have his good points too. He was consistent and he never quit on his family. When the going got rough, and I am sure it did more often than not, he did not get going but stuck around. Thanks, dad.

Chances are if I reach my goal of ten thousand blogs that many of you reading me now will no longer be. I hope that each of you will all not only live long and prosper, but that as long as you do that you find an encouraging word here and recommend this blog to your family and friends.

For years, it is said, word of mouth was the only advertising that the Hershey Chocolate Company employed. They spend a lot on advertising these days and sell a lot of chocolate. But then I am not selling anything, only freely offering what I have freely received, intending ever that my words are entertaining, enlightening, but more importantly encouraging.

I no longer believe many of the things that I was taught as a child, yet I still believe that encouraging words have the power to inspire hope, optimism, and enthusiasm for life in all it’s amazing and wonderful forms.

Almost thirty six years ago on a cold gray winter’s day, I met again a lovely and loving woman that I had first met twenty-five years earlier. A song released a year later about the time we married became our love song, Nick of Time, for we “found love, Baby, love in the nick of time.” Chances Are, a movie also released in 1989 is one of our favorite movies. Like the Cher and Peter Cetera song featured in the movie, After All, we consider ourselves “Angels rescued from the fall.”
