Brand New Key

Melanie released Brand New Key on November 9, 1971 less than two weeks before I turned twenty-one. She sang her sexy little ditty from the girl’s prospective and I changed a few word to sing in from the boy’s point of view (link below). Another sexy seventies song called Night Moves by Bob Seger also has some classic lines:

Sex is one of the great mysteries of life and despite all the guilt religions’ attempts to make it seem dirty or evil it is still the great creative drive in our lives. The heart wants what the heart wants and boys and girls of a certain again seek sexual expression and will find it and each other despite all the best laid plans to hinder their research. Better they should be given the best information available, at least a few choice clues before they begin their “magical mystery tour.”

The ole curmudgeon says, “Youth is wasted on the young.” Not so, say I, and all the truly young at heart. It tickles me when I hear the expression “better than sex” for since I first became aware of roller skates and brand new keys I have yet to find any better pastime than “trying them out.” Melanie agrees.
