Bless The Beasts And The Children
“For in this world they have no voice, they have no choice.” I find it astonishing that the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) predates the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children ASPCC) by almost a decade. Established in 1875 its goal like the former was to promote the ethical treatment of those who have no voice, no choice.
It is the mark of weak men if not monsters to think and act like those with less resources, less power, and less say are inferior and undeserving of equal protection. It took a Civil War in this country to cause us to correct the language of our founding documents that enfranchised (gave the vote or say to) only property owning white men.
In the Fourteen Amendment are enshrined these words:

Laws are intended to protect the rights of all persons. Some even cover the mistreatment of animals. Yet, I believe there is a more excellent way and that is for each of us to see everyone and everything thing as just an extension of ourself and equally deserving of love, care, even worship.
Pocahontas in the Disney version sings to the explorer bent on exploitation, John Smith:

The Western religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all teach that man was commanded to have dominion. That is a convenient commandment as it agrees with Ego’s world view. All three religions believe themselves to be the one true religion and claim “The Lord God is One” and think that means monotheism is the proper interpretation of those words. The Bible phrase “God is all in all” seems to agree with Pocahontas’ wider take on God and religion.
Bless you, bless the beasts and the children.
