All That We Let In

I begin my daily mantra with these words:

“My heart and my mind are open. My arms and my hands are open. My mouth, nose, ears, and eyes are open, to all the Universe has for me, for all the Universe to flow in and through me.”

Staying open is not an easy task. Pain, hurt, and disappointment would closes us off to all that makes life worth living. Fear of exposing ourselves to those three things would rob us of our greatest joy, giving and receiving love. As Paul McCartney sings in the mostly instrumental song with but a single complete sentence at the conclusion of the song: “And in the end, the love we take is equal to the love we make.”

The Indigo Girls line that is almost hidden in my cover of their lovely duet today is, “We’re better off for all that we let it.” That seems counterintuitive in this time and space jungle in which we find ourselves, but the Universe is ever knocking, imploring “Open the door to your heart.”
