All Shook Up
One of my favorite boyhood memories is of watching my then teenaged Aunt Patsy doing the Bop with the refrigerator handle while Dick Clark’s American Bandstand blared the latest rock ‘n roll records from my Paw Paw and Lilly’s living room TV. After Pat tired of the refrigerator’s inability to swing with her, she would grab my little hands and swing me around the room with her. I recall the lines from the Big Bopper’s hit song from the period:

Today’s Elvis song All Shook Up is also a tribute to the excitement and joy of young love. The guilt religions attempt to keep a lid on these passions is as foolish as it is ineffective. Jerry Lee Lewis another rock ‘n roller from the nineteen fifties had a hit song “Whole Lot Of Shaking Going On.” A hundred years ago kids were shaking to the Charleston, in the nineteen forties – the Jitterbug, the fifties – the Bop, the sixties – the Twist. Sonny and Cher sang, The Beat Goes On.
Here’s a bit of sage advice also from a song you can dance to: “Get up off that thing. Shake it you’ll feel better.”
